A microphone is required for voice recording. Dr.Capture can record the microphone sound into a video. However, If the settings of microphone is configured improperly or If the microphone driver is not installed properly, microphone sound recording might be impossible.
If the microphone sound is not recorded, you can solve the problem with following ways.
The settings for microphone sound recording are slightly different depending on operating systems version or the manufacturer of microphone.
1. Windows XP
If you want to record mic sound in Windows XP, the settings below are required.
A. The settings for the microphone of 3.5mm connector type.
- Plug the connector of mic into mic input of PC.
- Place the mouse cursor on the speaker icon of the tray icon area and click mouse right button. Choose ‘Open Volume Control’ in the pop-up menu.
- Select ‘Properties’ from ‘Options’.
- Select the device that supports ‘Recording’ and ‘Mic Volume’ in ‘Mixer Device’ list.
- Select ‘Recording’ and ‘Mic Volume’.
- Press ‘OK’ button of the properties window.
- Check the ‘Select’ checkbox of ‘Mic Volume’ item.
- Please note that you might not be able to hear any sound when you play it back if you set ‘Mic Volume’ too low.
- Place the mouse cursor on the speaker icon of the tray icon area and click mouse right button. Choose ”Adjust Audio Properties’ in the pop-up menu.
- Click ‘Audio’ tab and select ‘Default Device’ of ‘Sound Recording’ as the same device which was selected as ‘Mixer Device’ above.
- Press the ‘Apply’ button and press ‘OK’ to finish the setting.
B. The settings for microphone of USB connector type.
- Plug the connector of mic into USB input of PC.
- Place the mouse cursor on the speaker icon of the tray icon area and click mouse right button. Choose ‘Open Volume Control’ in the pop-up menu.
- Select ‘Properties’ from ‘Options’.
- Select the USB mic that supports ‘Recording’ and ‘Capture’ in ‘Mixer Device’ list.
- Select ‘Recording’ and ‘Capture’.
- Press ‘OK’ button of the properties window.
- Uncheck the ‘Mute All’ checkbox of ‘Capture’ item.
- Please note that you might not be able to hear any sound when you play it back if you set the ‘Capture’ volume too low.
- Place the mouse cursor on the speaker icon of the tray icon area and click mouse right button. Choose ”Adjust Audio Properties’ in the pop-up menu.
- Click ‘Audio’ tab and select ‘Default Device’ of ‘Sound Recording’ as the same device which was selected as ‘Mixer Device’ above.
- Press the ‘Apply’ button and press ‘OK’ to finish the setting.
2. The Operating systems since Vista (Windows Vista / 7 / 8 / 8.1 / 10)
If you want to record mic sound in the operating systems since Vista, the settings below are required.
A. The settings for the microphone of 3.5mm connector type.
- Plug the connector of mic into mic input of PC.
- Place the mouse cursor on the speaker icon of the tray icon area and click mouse right button. Choose ‘Recording Devices’ in the pop-up menu.
- Click ‘Recording’ tab.
- Select ‘Microphone’ and Press ‘Set Default’ button.
- Press ‘Properties’ button.
- Click ‘Listen’ tab.
- Check the ‘Listen to this device’ checkbox.
- Press ‘OK’ button of the properties window.
- Press ‘OK’ button of the sound setup window.
- Place the mouse cursor on the speaker icon of the tray icon area and click mouse right button. Choose ”Open Volume Mixer’ in the pop-up menu.
- Adjust mic volume.
- Please note that you might not be able to hear any sound when you play it back if you set ‘Mic Volume’ too low.
B. The settings for microphone of USB connector type.
- Plug the connector of mic into USB input of PC.
- Place the mouse cursor on the speaker icon of the tray icon area and click mouse right button. Choose ‘Recording Devices’ in the pop-up menu.
- Click ‘Recording’ tab.
- Select USB Mic and Press ‘Set Default’ button.
- Press ‘Properties’ button.
- Click ‘Listen’ tab.
- Check the ‘Listen to this device’ checkbox.
- Press ‘OK’ button of the properties window.
- Press ‘OK’ button of the sound setup window.
- Place the mouse cursor on the speaker icon of the tray icon area and click mouse right button. Choose ”Open Volume Mixer’ in the pop-up menu.
- Adjust USB mic volume.
- Please note that you might not be able to hear any sound when you play it back if you set ‘Mic Volume’ too low.
If you can’t solve the sound problem with the above explanations, we recommend to reinstall the device driver of sound card and USB mic with the manufacturer’s driver, and try the above instructions again.
3. How to record computer sound and microphone sound together
- Setup ‘Microphone’ first using above guidelines.
- After ‘Microphone’ setup, setup ‘Stereo Mix’ for system sound recording using this page.
- Place the mouse cursor on the speaker icon of the tray icon area and click mouse right button.
- Choose ‘Recording Devices’ in the pop-up menu.
- Click ‘Stereo Mix’ and press ‘Set Default’ button.
- Double click ‘Microphone’ and click ‘Listen’ tab.
- Select ‘Listen to this device’ and press ‘Apply’ and ‘OK’ buttons.
After setup, check computer and microphone sound recording.
If you don’t want to record system sound, set ‘Microphone’ to default device.
